INDEPENDENT SCIENTISTS AGREE NEW HEART HEALTH CLAIM FOR LONG CHAIN OMEGA-3S

The Joint Health Claims initiative has ruled that oil-rich fish such as Scottish Farmed Salmon can be promoted with a positive message about its beneficial effects on the heart.

The JHCI received the advice of seven leading independent UK scientists that 'eating 3g weekly or 0.45g daily, of long chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, as part of a healthy lifestyle helps maintain heart health'.

Eating two portions of Scottish Quality Salmon a week will deliver at least the omega-3 levels referred to in the approved claim. The claim only relates to long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids including EPA and DHA, which are found in Scottish Farmed Salmon.

Oil-rich fish is the latest in a small and select group of food including wholegrain food and oats, to benefit from a health claim approved by the JHCI.
